Vegetable oil-based hybrid microparticles as a green and biocompatible system for subcutaneous drug delivery

The aim of this study was to evidence the ability vegetable oil-based hybrid microparticles (HMP) be an efficient and safe drug delivery system after subcutaneous administration. HMP resulted from combination a thermostabilized emulsification process sol–gel chemistry. First all, castor oil successfully silylated by means (3-Isocyanatopropyl)trimethoxysilane in solvent-free catalyst-free conditions. Estradiol, as model drug, dissolved (ICOm) prior emulsification, then optimal crosslinking achieved inside ICOm microdroplets. resulting estradiol-loaded were around 80 µm size allowed entrap 4 wt% estradiol. Their release kinetics PBS/octanol biphasic exhibited one-week profile, released estradiol fully active on HeLa ERE-luciferase ER? cells. cytocompatible during preliminary tests NIH 3T3 fibroblasts (ISO 10993-5 standard) they biocompatible injection mice 10993-6 underlining their high potential long-acting system.
